Stem Cell Culture Suite

The laboratory has expertise in culturing and differentiating human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells using state-of-the-art protocols for chemically defined, feeder-free conditions. We use CRISPR-Cas9 for studies requiring gene editing. Phenotypic and functional assessments of stem cells and their derivatives include flow cytometry, imaging, metabolic flux, calcium flux, and electrophysiology.

We are pleased to be collaborating with Cellara - an innovative company based in Madison, WI - to develop next generation software for planning, recording, and reporting cell culture experiments. The only tool of its kind, CultureTrax is accelerating our stem cell research by providing researchers with immediate access to protocols, recipes, and project design through its cloud-based software platform accessible via desktop, iPad, or smartphone. 

The stem cell culture suite features 140 sq feet of space dedicated to human pluripotent stem cell culturing and differentiation and is equipped with two 4ft BSL2 Biological Safety Cabinets, four CO2 incubators with high heat decontamination, and a Nikon Ti-U inverted microscope with phase contrast, epifluorescence, warming stage, and high resolution camera, and NIS elements.


Tissue Dissection & Culture Suite

The laboratory has expertise in isolating cardiomyocytes and cardiac fibroblasts from fresh human tissue, including donor hearts and surgical discards.

The tissue dissection and culture suite features 100 sq feet of space dedicated to the isolation and culture of primary human cells and RNA extraction and is equipped with one 4ft BSL2 Biological Safety Cabinet, two CO2 incubators, thermalcycler, and a Nikon SMZ-1500 Stereo Zoom Microscope with reflected/transmitted light, color camera and NIS Elements.
